Jepsen Replaced by Tabernacle Choir in This Year’s Stadium of Fire

Hold the phone! It was made public Wednesday evening that Carly Rae Jepsen has canceled her participation in Provo’s annual Stadium of Fire. This means, of course, that thousands of Utah residents will miss out on hearing Jepsen’s critically acclaimed hit, “Call Me Maybe.” The reason for her sudden cancellation has not been released. The reactions from the public have been mixed.

“I’m just relieved I won’t have to hear that song again,” replied ticket holder and Lehi resident Joline. Others are not so happy. “The chance to hear Call Me Maybe live was actually the only reason I bought tickets,” grumbled Clint from Spanish Fork. “I might as well sell my ticket and watch the fireworks from Rock Canyon Park.”

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson will still be performing as planned and will be joined by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This has actually been one of Clarkson’s life-long dreams. “I still remember the first time I heard ‘that Mormon choir’ sing on TV. The way they performed their hymns and especially patriotic songs was very moving. When I hear them sing, it’s like I’m enveloped in a huge, comforting marshmallow of sound,” Clarkson explained. “Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?”

With Jepsen’s inexplicable cancellation, Clarkson’s dream will become reality. On the night of the Fourth of July, all Stadium of Fire ticket holders will be gifted with the performance of a lifetime.

Some songs featured in the program now include:

  • Battle Hymn of the Republic,
  • Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,
  • Nearer My God to Thee,
  • The Spirit of God (Like a Fire is Burning).

Despite the last minute changes, this year’s Stadium of Fire will surely be the best yet.
